If you decide to move your computer equipment on your own, following these four simple steps should keep you out of trouble:

1. Keep each computer and peripherals together: You need large computer bags or plastic boxes to keep the all the contents in a single place. Putting multiple computers, keyboards mice and monitors in a single location will cause confusion on the reconnect side, and will cost you precious time.

2. Do you need to back up your files? If your office doesn’t use roaming profiles, it is always a good idea to backup you critical data. Check with your I.T department if you aren’t sure about your desktop files.

3. As you disconnect the equipment, be sure to document what you are doing. Create a computer inventory and test document that will help you keep track of what peripherals each user has, along with other notes such as noting if the user is left handed, where the CPU sits and where the monitor is placed. Please call PcDisconnect at 800 585 9049 if you want our complimentary Inventory & Test Procedure Sheet. (Document #:214)

4. So long as your disconnect was well documented and you have an adequate test document, the reconnect of your computers should be trouble free.

Desktop PC’s, Printers, Scanners, Faxes and phones were all disconnected quickly and carefully at 5pm. By 6pm, all workstations had been successfully disconnected and were already being packed by the mover. PcDisconnect also handled the un-racking of servers and networking equipment.

With the moving company following closely behind our computer technicians, they were done just minutes after we had disconnected our last piece of equipment.

At the new office location, the movers quickly placed the computer equipment and PcDisconnect immediately began to reconnect, completing in just less than one hour.

In addition, there were 13 other offices around that country that needed to be documented.

PcDisconnect had a crew of 4 trained computer technicians blanket the Princeton NJ office, and in just two days we had documented and catalogued over 1000 units. At the same time, we had dispatched PcDisconnect representatives to states from Connecticut to California to capture and document the branch office components.

BlackRock had requested that we document device location, serial number, model number, IP address, and what kind of printing supplies each unit needed. Once we had all the information together, we compiled a single spreadsheet and presented it to the happy BlackRock I.T managers.
